Join Union Hotel and the Giller Prize for the second-ever session of #BookTalk, an intimate new literary series celebrating Canadian literature in a fresh, community-focused way.

Continuing the series is Thomas King, an award-winning writer and photographer, in conversation with Indigenous poet and educator Tyler Pennock. Set in the cozy, storytelling-rich lobby of the Union Hotel, this live interview invites book lovers into a relaxed evening of meaningful dialogue, exploring Thomas’ latest work and the power of CanLit today.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR, THOMAS KING:

THOMAS KING is an award-winning writer and photographer. His critically acclaimed, bestselling books include Medicine River; Green Grass, Running Water; One Good Story, That One; Truth and Bright Water; A Short History of Indians in Canada; The Back of the Turtle (winner of the Governor General’s Literary Award for Fiction); The Inconvenient Indian (winner of the RBC Taylor Prize); Indians on Vacation; Sufferance; and the poetry collection, 77 Fragments of a Familiar Ruin. A Companion of the Order of Canada and the recipient of a National Aboriginal Achievement Award, Thomas lives in Guelph, Ontario.

ABOUT THE MODERATOR, TYLER PENNOCK:

TYLER PENNOCK is a two-spirit adoptee from a Cree and Metis family around the Lesser Slave Lake region of Alberta and is a member of Sturgeon Lake Cree Nation. Their first Book, Bones (Brick Books), shortlisted for the Gerald Lampert Memorial Award and the Indigenous Voices Award for Poetry, was released in 2020, and their second book, Blood was released in September 2022. Tyler was the inaugural FASS (Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences) Indigenous Artist-in-Residence at Carleton University in 2023, and is an Assistant Professor Centre for Indigenous Studies, University of Toronto.
